Ciudad Jardin | Travel

Traveling to Spain last year to shoot Mark & Merriah’s intimate wedding was an amazing experience. And taught me a lot.

One. I love wine. I used to say I love beer (as Merriah would attest!) but the cheap Spanish wine converted me. Now I drink red wine almost exclusively.

Two. I want to travel more. This one is probably a given. I had never been out of the US before. Now I see how much I’ve been missing.

Three. Spanish food is amazing. Menu del dia’s were the best bet – amazing local cuisine with a salad, entree, dessert AND a bottle of wine for $15. Done.

Four. Siestas really exist. Once you almost starve because everyone’s closed between 3 and 5pm, you learn your lesson really quick.

Five. Lemonade and beer. Mixed together. BLOW YOUR MIND.

Six. Raw tuna on salads is so good.

If you couldn’t guess, I love food. :) With that, I’ll leave you the gorgeous city of Palma de Mallorca. Do yourself a favor this year – get out and see the world. We were lucky to both start and end our trip to Mallorca with Palma. Our final day in Palma, the weather wasn’t the best, but I felt right at home with the overcast skies.

Splitting our trip resulted in being able to stay in different neighborhoods – when we arrived, we stayed near the town center. Leaving we stayed fairly close to the airport as we had an early flight. Ciudad Jardin borders the seaside promenade which runs along the entire bay of Palma, past El Molinar, Portixol and Ciudad Jardín as far as Playa de Palma. The UR Portofino was perfect – inexpensive, clean and situated in a more residential area than the touristy town center. I fell in love with its turquoise stucco. We paid less than 60 euros for a night!

Below are the final images we took in Spain. We’ll save the rest of Palma for later.

Palma, you’re beautiful.

Melissa & Garrett | 4th of July Weekend at Mt. Rainier

Oh man, oh man. I’m so stoked to finally share Melissa & Garrett’s story!

We first met Melissa last June – just a month before her wedding. When she told me she was planning a very intimate wedding at Ricksecker Point at Mt. Rainier National Park. and wanted to bring her hiking boots, I knew we were going to have a great time.

Mt. Rainier weddings are some of our favorite to shoot. There’s something about the simplicity and back-to-nature approach that speaks to me – probably all the time spent in the Redwoods. We shot our first wedding at Mt. Rainier in 2010, which was such an intimate wedding that we served as witnesses for the couple! Melissa & Garrett continued the Rainier tradition with a memorable and truly naturally gorgeous intimate wedding.

The weather that weekend was…magical, to say the least. I’ve never seen the skies so blue; the sun so warm on our faces. It was one of the brightest and hottest weddings we’ve ever shot and we loved every minute of it.

Thank you, Melissa & Garrett, for allowing us to be part of your day. :)

Jaclyn & Jason | 03.25.11 – One Year Later

One year ago today, Jaclyn and Jason got married! These two kicked off the beginning of last year’s crazy wedding season with their March 25 nuptials at Casa Real Winery and I’m so happy to revisit it today on their first anniversary!

Time flies when you’re having fun, and as you’ll be able to tell from their slideshow, this couple certainly knows how to have fun. :)

Stephanie & CJ | Engaged in New York!

Stephanie and CJ hold a special place in my heart..they were the FIRST couple to book me for an east coast wedding when we moved here. They both live in Boston so we did a Skype session. This engagement shoot was the first time we met and we absolutely HIT IT OFF.

I brought Ryan along for this shoot, even though I typically shoot engagement sessions on my own. He was awesome as well – having another boy there so boys can be boys always helps loosen us up!

Stephanie and CJ chose Columbia University as their engagement shoot location, since it plays such an important part of their history. The two met while they were both at Columbia for undergrad, studying Chemical Engineering. CJ is almost finished with his graduate program at, oh, I don’t know..MIT!! These two kids are gorgeous, hilarious AND smart?? Oh man.

After wandering around the campus, we hopped on the subway and made our way down to 72nd for some classic NY hot dogs from Grey’s Papaya. What a FABULOUS way to end the afternoon. I am SO looking forward to their wedding in New Jersey in August. We’re gonna have a blast.
